Not less than 15 stranded Nigerian females who were evacuated from Libya arrived with various stages of pregnancies, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The stranded Nigerian migrants who arrived Nigeria on Thursday, July 27, 2018, were part of another batch of 162 youths brought back under the Voluntary Returnees Scheme facilitated by the European Union/International Organization for Migration (IOM).
A breakdown of the returnees showed that there were 83 female adults, six female children and six female infants, 62 male adults, two male children and three male infants.
During a routine check-up, it was discovered that 15 of the females were carrying various stages of pregnancy and on interrogation, many of them confessed that they were severally raped by Libyan security officials.
NEMA Director General, Mustapha Maihajja who received the returnees on behalf of the Federal Government, advised the youths to embrace regular migration.
Represented by the Lagos Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Yakubu Suleiman, the DG warned prospective migrants not to endanger their lives by https://www.staging.sabinews.com/fg-repatriates-242-nigerians-from-libya-punch/embarking on irregular migration.
“Nigerian youths seeking greener pastures outside the shores of this country should know that they would become second-class citizens in their host countries except for those who entered such country through regular means that may possibly have limited rights,” the DG said.
