Women are making history and breaking records in diverse fields of life. Women with the right mentality and ideology are carving out their own legacy; this year has been fascinating for ladies in this part of the world.

 

On this episode of 1st List, we will celebrate women who attained massive success; and unravel some of the most controversial figures in the industry. Women are setting the pace in the entertainment industry, fashion sector; and they have aided in the modification of Nollywood.

 

Women have become more outspoken and are standing up for their fundamental rights. Gone are the days when women played second fiddle; and undermined themselves as second class citizens. In this era, women are advocating against rape, gender inequality and domestic violence.

 

One of the major stories that shook the country this year, is the rape allegation levelled against COZA pastor, Abiodun Fatoyinbo. Fatoyinbo was called out in June 2019 by Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola Dakolo.

23-year-old Rivers state native, Natacha Akide will kick off the 1st list compiled for women who shook the entertainment industry. She is undoubtedly one of the most popular housemates who emerged from the 2019 BBNaija Pepper Dem show.

Her saucy personality and controversial remarks alongside her beauty catapulted her into mainstream popularity. Except you reside underneath a rock, you must have come across the unapologetic beau on various social media platforms or even on your TV. Tacha has amassed thousands of fans across Africa, in fact, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has openly stated that he is a fan of the reality star.

Tacha is the young lady everyone loves to hate. There is actually no balance, you are either infuriated at her pride or you fall in love with her unperturbed personality.

 

2. Mercy

Mercy won the 2019 BBNaija edition. The former video vixen and dancer made history when she went home with N60 million at the end of the reality show.

She won the hearts of many Nigerians due to her altruistic personality and her Romeo and Juliet narrative with Ike in the house.

The Imo-born reality show star took home the N30m cash prize as the winner of the BBNaija fourth edition. Also, she received a brand new car and other gifts which makes up her winning to N60m.

Mercy is now the first female housemate to win the reality show as its previous winners have all been male housemates.

The 2019 edition of the Big Brother Naija Reality show recorded over 240 million votes. Furthermore, over 50 million votes were recorded in the last week of the reality show.

3. Etinosa Idemudia

Etinosa Idemudia is a Nollywood actor and Instagram comedian who came into limelight after her nude video surfaced online during an Instalive conversation with MC Galaxy. Her video went viral at the time and her popularity in the industry skyrocketed.

She has since become a regular headliner on the online news platform, Instablog. Etinosa is renowned for making controversial statements on social media. Unperturbed by negative comments from her followers, the actress recently shared a video of herself smoking marijuana and using the holy bible as her ashtray. Her action has been met with criticism by religious folks across the globe.

A couple of days ago, Etinosa poked her followers with the notion that she will also use a Quran as an ashtray if she is paid. Oh well, 1st News will report the news when she carries out her act.

 

4. Tonto Dikeh

Earlier in the year, Tonto Dikeh dragged her estranged husband, Olakunle Churchill in an explosive interview. She berated his masculinity, dipped his pride in a puddle of mud, Tonto unapologetically shredded her ex-husband and members of his family.

Tonto called the father of her son a40 seconds man’. This statement gained her a reputation of an Instagram sensation rather than as an actress.

 

5. Toyin Abraham

In 2019, Toyin Abraham welcomed her first child with a movie industry colleague, Kolawole Ajeyemi.  Toyin Abraham also recently revealed she conceived her son with the aid of traditional herbs due to her fertility issues.

Further, she was involved in a social media feud with Liz Anjorin.

Tiwa Savage ended her seven-year relationship with Don Jazzy’s record label Mavins Record earlier in the year. She signed a record label deal with Universal Music Group.

Tiwa Savage joined Mavin Records during the transition from Mo’Hits Records. The beautiful singer went on to release numerous hit singles and won multiple awards.

 

7. DJ Cuppy

The billionaire heiress on a visit to Dubai with her father, Femi Otedola visited the Fame park today, and there she met with ‘Little Cuppy’, a baby lion in the park.

DJ Cuppy turned 27 on Monday, November 11 also received the sum of N5.1 billion as her birthday gift. 2019 has been a productive year for the ‘Gelato’ crooner.

 

8. Genevieve Nnaji

Nigerian star and film director Genevieve Nnaji has already shown that she is a force to be reckoned with; so the disqualification of her Netflix movie, Lion Heart from the Oscars is unlikely to frustrate her ambitions.

The 40-year-old has starred in more than 80 films over the last two decades; and her rise to prominence coincided with the exponential growth of Nollywood; as the Nigerian film industry is called, across Africa.

Kiki Mordi is a Nigerian journalist, media personality, filmmaker and writer who gained modest popularity following the release of the BBC documentary, SexForGrades.

Following the death of her father, she gained admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to study medicine; but later dropped out due to sexual harassment from a certain lecturer.

She was nominated for the On-air Personality of the Year (Female) at the Scream All-Youth Awards.

On 3 November 2019, she was nominated for The Future Awards Africa in Prize for Journalism category.

 

10. Busola Dakolo

Busola Dakolo who is married to Nigerian music artiste, Timi Dakolo instigated controversy in June 2019; when she alleged that she was raped by Abiodun Fatoyinbo as a teenager.

 

Dakolo, the wife of inspirational singer, Timi Dakolo, finally dragged Fatoyinbo, to court over her rape claims.

 

Busola had two months ago made a shocking revelation in a detailed interview; of how the Abuja-based cleric raped her as a teenager.

 

She claimed Fatoyinbo had sexual intercourse with her on September 23 and 26, 2002; caused her continuous emotional distress; as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress.
