Excitement as Ake Festival approaches

The Literary season is finally back.

Last month we had the Lagos International Poetry Festival, this month, it is the turn of the Ake Arts and Book festival!

Every year since 2013, the most brilliant creative minds gather to revel in the sheer beauty of the arts against the backdrop of the rocky hills of Abeokuta countryside, to share stories that transcend space and time.

The Ake Arts and Book festival is one of the biggest of its kind in Africa. Since its debut in 2013, the festival has become a sort of end of year gathering for the most brilliant creative minds; there are panel discussions focusing on relevant issues in the art community both in Nigeria and Africa, master classes for emerging writers, live plays, a palm-wine and poetry evening, an amazing bookshop. This year, some of Nigeria’s finest musicians- Brymo, Adunni&Nefretiti, and Falana will perform at the festival.

The 2016 Ake festival, tagged Beneath the skin,  is set to take place at the Kuto Cultural Centre in Abeokuta from November 15th-19th, 2016. Guest at this year’s event includes Pemi Aguda, Helon Habila, Chinelo Okparanta, Molara Woods, Denrele Edun, Ogaga Ifowodu, NoViolet Bulawayo, Oris Aigbokhaevbolo, Teju Cole, Kadaria Ahmed, Toni kan, Johwor Ile, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o and many others.

Excited right?
