Abule-Ado: LASEMA commences 4-day fumigation exercise at explosion site

 

Following the decry of residents at the Abule-Ado where there was a massive explosion on March 15, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has decided to commence a four-day fumigation exercise at the community.

Specifically, Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, told the press that the exercise; which started on Thursday, would end on Sunday.

According to him, after the completion of the fumigation exercise; members of the public are advised to keep away from the affected area.

He said that 102 people were in relief camp out of a revised total of 588 people; displaced from their homes following the explosion.

“We identified a total of 340 buildings which the impact of the explosion affected; subjected to series of tests.

“A joint public-private team which the Materials Testing Agency will led would carry out the test; covering foundation and solid material testing.

“After the test, those that fail the tests will be leveled to ground zero.

“The testing exercise applies to the identified buildings; as well as all those within a 500 meter radius from the epicentre.

“We advise scavengers to keep away and residents who have prematurely commenced repair and reconstruction; should stop work and wait for the results of the testing,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

He, however, appealed to members the public for calmness; and urged the public to keep off the scene and to be law abiding.

Oke-Osanyintolu said that the agency has moved its help desk to the Igando relief camp and LASEMA personnel remains manning it.
