The Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket put up by the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, National Chairman of the party, is exactly what Nigerians need right now.
Senator Adamu stated this in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, on Thursday, August 18, 2022; noting that the Muslim-Muslim ticket is the best way for the APC to triumph in the upcoming general elections.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, chose Senator Kashim Shettima; the former governor of Borno State, as his running mate. This decision infuriated certain party leaders and many Nigerians in general.
Adamu said, “You see, with the situation we are in the country, you can’t convince everybody. It’s democracy. Everyone has his right but for us, same faith ticket is the best thing for Nigeria presently.
“But we will not relent. We will work to ensure we convince Nigerians to fully support this Tinubu/Shettima ticket. Every party has its strategy and this is our strategy that we think can best work for us.”
Adamu also said security and economic challenges in the country won’t stop them from winning the election.
“Yes, there’s insecurity in the country and every country faces its own kind of insecurity. The media don’t publicise government efforts adequately,” he said.
Meanwhile, Speaker of House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, says what transpired during the meeting between former president Olusegun Obasanjo and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu, is assuring the latter’s victory, come 2023.
Gbajabiamila made the statement on Thursday while speaking at the Surulere Local Government Area (LGA) APC meeting in Surulere, Lagos.
The Speaker, who was present at the closed-door meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu on Wednesday in Abeokuta, said from what he heard there, Tinubu’s presidency was almost a reality.
He said Obasanjo made encouraging statements about Tinubu’s aspirations and even prayed for the APC presidential candidate.
“When we were going to Obasanjo’s house, we were eight, including Asiwaju Tinubu and me; we didn’t want many people to know about the meeting. So, we were to meet Obasanjo and five others from his side.
“But when we eventually got there, we met something pleasantly shocking: a mammoth crowd of our supporters was already at the former president’s house waiting for us.
“So, Obasanjo told Asiwaju Tinubu to pick three people from his side and that he would pick three from his side to meet behind closed doors.
“So, I, Chief Osoba and Chief Akande and Asiwaju went from our side. My people, what I heard there, what Obasanjo said, the victory of Asiwaju is assured.
“Obasanjo spoke at length and we were all happy. He embraced our candidate like a brother, gave him a pat on the back, and prayed for him copiously”, he said.
