Akeredolu dares COVID-19, says virus won’t stop re-election

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has played down his positive COVID-19 status.

Specifically, the governor has revealed that the situation will not hamper his victory in the upcoming governorship election in the state.

Akeredolu made the disclosure in a video posted on his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Equally important, 1st News can confirm that the Ondo State governorship election is scheduled for October 10. Akeredolu, who tested positive for COVID-19 today, Tuesday, June 30, is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I want to plead with my political associates that they should continue with the project because we are sure to win. My trust in God to get through this is unshakable.”

Equally important, the governor emphasised that the COVID-19 infection will not stop his on-going project.

‘’Let me assure our people that the work is going on. Here at home, attending to files which is the normal thing I do. And there is nothing that will stop the work from going on,’’ he declared.”

The Ondo helmsman, who addressed the citizens of the state in the video, revealed that had previously suffered a bout of malaria. However, he was advised to take a COVID-19 test which returned positive.

“At this moment, I had malaria a few days. I was treated and did get over it. And at the time we had our party NEC, and my colleagues called on me and spoke with one of them who felt that malaria should not be treated lightly that I should go ahead and have a test for COVID-19. The result came out today, 30th June 2020 and I tested positive. But I am asymptomatic.”

However, Akeredolu revealed that he is neither feeling sick nor odd. Nevertheless, he disclosed that his doctors have advised that he undergoes the normal treatment and self-isolate.

‘‘I believe that supervised home management will be ideal for me for now. Let me assure our people that as you can see me, there are many of us that don’t have the symptoms. In few days’ time, we would conduct another test and we will know the result.”
