Former president Olusegun Obasanjo aka OBJ was among the first to call Buruji Kashamu a drug baron but that was after Kashamu had allegedly spent $20m on OBJ’s campaign.
When OBJ repeated the charge in his book, My Watch, Kashamu a PDP chieftain sought a court injunction to ban publication and release of the book. That court ruling was vacated last week but by then Buruji Kashamu had been elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in South west Ogun state.
Was OBJ right to have called Kashamu a drug dealer?
Kashamu denies the charge saying the person wanted in the us US state of Chicago is an older brother who is now dead.
Accordinng to Kashamu “I have never lived in or visited the United States of America and have never been involved in any narcotics or criminal activities in the United States of America.”
Recent reports in the Associated Press say “Piper Kerman, whose memoir about her jail time was adapted for the Netflix hit “Orange Is The NewBlack” is said to have referred to Kashamu even though he is not mentioned by name.
Many observers say if Kashamu is indeed innocent, he should fly to the US to clear his name.
