Senator Ibikunle Amosun, a former governor of Ogun State, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 declared that despite the “injustice” shown to his camp, he will support President Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
Amosun declared that he would not obstruct any of his supporters from pursuing their political goals inside their preferred political party.
He begged to be excluded from the talks though; saying his main priority is to make sure Tinubu wins the 2023 presidential election.
In addition, Amosun vowed to stick by the President till the end of his term on May 29, 2023; saying that no matter what happens, he will always be his buddy.
Adekunle Akinlade, Amosun’s chosen candidate for the 2019 Ogun governorship election, resigned from the APC citing egregious injustice.
As a result of the national leadership of the party failing to ensure that a sharing formula; which was suggested by the party’s reconciliation committee be followed in Ogun; it was learned that some other influential members of the Amosun political camp had also left the party.
Amosun, who was represented by the faction’s APC Chairman, Derin Adebiyi, at an extended leaders’ meeting held at the former governor’s Ibara mansion in Abeokuta, insisted that party defectors are free to gauge their popularity elsewhere but shouldn’t bargain with his name.
According to Daily Post, sources at the meeting quoted Adebiyi as saying; “He (Amosun) has sent us to you that he stands with Tinubu. He is loyal to APC. Also, he stands with President Muhammadu Buhari and by the grace of God, on May 29, 2023; he will follow him to Daura and say Alhamdulilah.
“If there is any other step to be taken, it will be a collective decision.
“Now, he said we should tell all of you that; whoever loves him and believes in him with all his explanations; such person should stay with him and that he is not angry with anybody.
“Whoever wants to contest in another platform is free to contest, but should not use the name of this group or that of SIA to negotiate. This is what Amosun is saying. This is what he has asked us to tell you.”
