Bishop of Sokoto Diocese of the Catholic Church, Matthew Kukah, has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s method of prosecuting the anti-graft war. The cleric said it is worrisome that the president has not changed the approach he used when he took over government in a military coup in 1984. Kukah also said some of the president’s “new friends” in the All Progressives Congress (APC) were those he sent to jail, when he served as military head of state. Read more

A mistress of Ado Bayero, the late Emir of Kano, Princess Hauwa Momoh, has lamented the alleged abandonment of her children by the deceased monarch’s family. The 51-year-old, who claimed to be down with fever as she showed our correspondent drugs procured for her by some Good Samaritans in Lagos, also alleged that her life was in danger. While calling for help from well-meaning Nigerians and the government, she alleged that the family of the late Ado Bayero had warned her not to talk to the press. Read more

Arik Air resumes flights from Abuja to Calabar, Uyo (Vanguard)

Arik Air on Tuesday announced that it was resuming flight operations on the Abuja-Calabar and Abuja-Uyo routes from Dec. 15. Its Communications Manager, Mr Ola Adebanji, disclosed this in Lagos in a statement. Adebanji said the airline was increasing its capacity ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations to enable customers celebrate the season with their families and friends. NAFDAC calls for join fight against unwholesome, unregistered products (Sun)

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged critical stakeholders to join the organisation in the fight against counterfeit, adulterated and unregistered products, especially in the South-East of the country. The South-East Zonal Co-ordinator of NAFDAC, Mr Fori Tatama, gave the advice in an interview, on Tuesday, in Enugu. “We want them to know that joining NAFDAC in its core mandate of fighting against would benefit them greatly, especially majority of them that deal in genuine and registered products. Oil price rises above $65 per barrel (Punch)

Brent crude oil prices jumped above $65 per barrel after the shutdown of the Forties North Sea pipeline knocked out significant supplies from a market that was already tightening due to OPEC-led production cuts. Brent crude futures on Tuesday, the international benchmark for oil prices, were at $65.07 dollars a barrel at 0211 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at 58.21 dollars a barrel. Read more

FG to generate 3,000MW through mini-grids (Vanguard)

Nigerians’ hope of having regular power supply may not take long as the Federal Government plans to generate 3,000 Megawatts (MW) more of electricity through mini-grids to energize under-served off-grid communities across Nigeria by the year 2020. The Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, who stated this, said the agency was securing $350 million from the World Bank for rural electrification. India bans condom advertisements on TV (Punch)

India has slapped a nationwide ban on television ads for condoms during prime time hours, citing rules prohibiting “vulgar” content and concerns over children viewing salacious material. The information and broadcasting ministry ordered India’s estimated 900 television channels to restrict condom commercials to between 10pm and 6am, threatening repercussions if the ads fall outside graveyard hours. Badoo: Four arrested for allegedly killing woman, son, pastor (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a ritual cult, Badoo, in connection with the killing of a woman, Beatrice Alaba, and her son, David, at Temu village, in the Agbowa area of the state.
