Bandits attack Kuje Prison in Abuja

There is apprehension among residents of Kuje in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja following the repeated sounds of gunshots being heard in the area.



There are fears among residents that the correctional center is under attack by armed men.



A resident of the area, Joshua Friday, told our correspondent that the shootings have been ongoing for the last 20 minutes.





He said the situation has caused panic in the area.


He said, “Currently in Kuje and the shooting has been going on for almost 20 minutes now. I can’t tell you what is happening whether it is a robbery or not. But we have been hearing gunshots repeatedly around the area the prison is located. We are all scared as I speak to you. ”



When contacted, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar asked our correspondent to call him back.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has has arraigned a fake Director of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation; Adamu Yahaya Jiyaba before Justice N.I. Afolabi of the Federal High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.



The suspect was arraigned on a one-count bordering on cybercrime.



This was contained in a statement by the EFCC on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.


The charge read, “That you, Adamu Yayaha Jiyaba, sometime in 2022 in Abuja; within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court attempted to commit an offence to input a data that you are Robert S. Muller; the FBI Director, with the intention that such inauthentic data will be considered or acted upon and you; thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 13 of the Cybercrime (Provision, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Section of the Act.”


He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
