The Presidency, on Tuesday, described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the trip of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to Daura for Sallah.
According to a statement signed late Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity; Garba Shehu, the attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions; but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered.
“All the other personnel, staff, and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” the statement read.
The incident comes barely days to the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations on Saturday. President Buhari would be observing the celebration in his hometown of Daura.
Meanwhile, the Military Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, in Plateau State,; Major Ishaku Takwa, on Tuesday, confirmed that bandits attacked Angwan Bashar community; as well as another community in Kanam Local Government Area of the State.
Takwa disclosed that the attacks by the bandits on the two communities were repelled by the troops; in conjunction with the local vigilante group..
Eight corpses belonging to the bandits were recovered by the villagers.
Takwa said, “What happened was that there was an attack by bandits yesterday in the night on Angwa Bashar in Kanam LGA.
“Before our troops arrived with heavy gunfire, the vigilante men were already engaging the bandits.
”So, the troops in conjunction with the vigilante men were able to repel the attack. But as the attack in Angwan Bashar was going on; we received information that another set of bandits was attacking another village within the council area.
