The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Volcan Club de Moroni from the ongoing 2022/2023 CAF Champions League.
According to sources, the club from Comoros was eliminated; because they failed to show up for and respect their match in the Champions League’s first preliminary round.
They were scheduled to play the Seychelles’ La Passe FC, the hosts.
After the conclusion of the preliminary first round matches, their case was brought before the committee which went on to apply the competition’s Regulations, basing its decision on Article IX 10.5.
The Article reads: “It is the duty of the visiting team to organise its travel arrangements in a way that permits it to arrive at the venue of the match at a reasonable time ahead of the scheduled date of the match.”
As a result, La Passe FC have now automatically progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans and Libyan counterparts Al-Ahli Tripoli produced the biggest win margins as the first preliminary round of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions League ended on Sunday. With the first preliminary round now over, the teams now move to the second preliminary round. The second round matches start in October. The winners from the second preliminary round will qualify for the group stages.
