Another shocking carpet crossing has rocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); with a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sam Onuigbo moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Onuigbo represents Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of Abia State.
His defection was announced in a letter read on the floor of the House by the Speaker; Femi Gbajabiamila on Thursday. He cited “division” as the reason for his carpet crossing to the APC.
This week, four members of the House from different political parties have swapped their party allegiance for the APC. Datti Yako from Kano State on Tuesday moved from the PDP to the APC; while Danjuma Shittu from Taraba state dumped the All Progressives Congress Alliance for the APC.
On Wednesday, Tajudeen Adefisoye moved from Social Democratic Party to the APC.
Reacting to the latest decamping, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu asked the Speaker to declare Onuigbo’s seat vacant. However, he was once again overruled.
Meanwhile, the Senate, on Wednesday, December 16, revealed how the officials of the Ministry of Health mismanaged N559 million; generated from sales of 681,487 units of International Certificate of vaccination (Yellow Card) to the public.
Furthermore, the Senate discovered that nine assorted vehicles belonging to the Ministry were taken away; by some former officials of ministry as they were leaving the service of the Ministry.
This alarm was raised during plenary by Senator Matthew Urhoghide, (PDP, Edo South) who heads the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.
