Ratcliffe made his fortune with petrochemicals company Ineos but has always wanted to acquire a Premier League football club.

The 66-year-old is worth in excess of £21billion and recently purchased Team Sky.

He is a season ticket holder at Chelsea and, according to media reports, is seriously exploring the idea of buying the club.

However, the Manchester-based tycoon will have to cough-up if he is to convince Roman Abramovich to sell.
