Coronavirus: Oyedepo defies ban on mass gatherings, holds Sunday service, criticises Buhari for banning schools

Despite the threat of the fast-spreading coronavirus scourge, the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide; otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel; Bishop David Oyedepo defied the ban placed on mass gatherings of more than 20 people to hold Sunday services.

1st News can report that attendances at the services surpassed 20 persons; which represents the figure banned in a revised order issued by the Lagos State Government. As a matter of fact, hundreds of worshippers thronged the church’s auditorium for the service.

Furthermore, Oyedepo was unfazed by the risk of contagion of the novel coronavirus. In the course of the service, he declared that no plague can come near the children of God.

Equally important, Oyedepo delivered a sermon titled – Winning the war against coronavirus.

“According to how we have prayed, the siege is over. The same way Ebola went away, this is going away. The same God that helped us that time is still alive, he will help us again,” Oyedepo preached.

Also, the congregation sang in their numbers, while also rendering supplications to God; mainly to stop the onslaught of the coronavirus in Nigeria and other countries of the world.

Furthermore, Oyedepo criticised the government over its handling of the dreaded coronavirus. As a matter of fact, he berated the Muhammadu Buhari-led government for banning schools.

Nigeria has been battling to contain the coronavirus scourge since an undisclosed Italian, who returned to the country on February 24 became the first confirmed case. Although the Italian has made a full recovery and has now been discharged, Nigeria has however racked up more confirmed cases of the coronavirus thus far, further sparking fears of a major crisis. Furthermore, there have been renewed calls for better personal hygiene and social distancing among the populace in a bid to curb the coronavirus menace.
