I recently wrote about social distancing being a joke in Lagos State as a measure against coronavirus. At the bottom of my heart, I was afraid when I wrote that piece. I was afraid for myself and everybody I know; but especially for my parents who have existing health conditions; and who fall into the category of people most at risk of death by the virus.
I don’t want anything to happen to anybody abeg. So, it is a relief that the Lagos State government took; and is taking measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The numbers of affected persons are climbing daily, and we can’t say Nigeria is not another Italy waiting to happen. So, while we take care, we must also pray so that God will forbid bad thing o!
Speaking of becoming like Italy, that is the most troubling disaster because Italy is like the world’s sweetheart. I mean, who would want anything bad to happen to the people that gave the world delicious pasta and free kisses? I hope they wake up to a new morning when the deaths are gone. Also, I pray for their smile to return soon.
But in truth, their situation could have been avoided; only if they had paid attention early enough to prevent a spread of the Coronavirus.
I don’t think they realised what they would be dealing with. So, they kept moving around freely, thus spreading the bugger with reckless abandon. If you think we are any different in Nigeria, you might be deceiving yourself.
Our ogas at the top have done the job of importing the package. We are only just learning that they also spread it amongst themselves. What this means is that all that noise about self-isolation for 14 days; and banning flights from hot zones are just nonsense talk to their ears, abi?
Now it is anybody’s guess who has actually tested positive and who hasn’t. You would think they know better, right?
What is even sadder is that our infected VIPs can’t go to their usual hospitals abroad; simply because the world is already fighting this battle at full capacity. So, guess what? We are all in this together.
We will enjoy the premium healthcare facilities they have worked so hard over the years to provide us with together. If there are deaths, we will see it together. What a wonder!
All those billions supposedly spent in the development of the healthcare sector are coming out to play now. This life is funny sha.
Kudos to the Lagos State Government for moving ahead with the shutdown of markets and non-essential businesses in Lagos; for the time being. That effort is one part done. The other part is for us to do our own and stay indoors unless movement is absolutely necessary.
It doesn’t matter that we are reacting to this wahala that Wuhan has put all of us inside. What matters is that we are unified in the fight to kick Coronavirus out of Lagos and Nigeria.
Remember to sanitise regularly.
Hopefully, this bad dream will end sooner than later.
