Before I launch into sharing any more life-saving thoughts on COVID-19 with you, tell me. How was your week? Did you go out? If you did, what was your experience? Did you notice anything different, pleasant or unpleasant in the outdoors?
I’d like to know how you fared this week. Partly because I am curious, fearful and because it is our new reality.
Trying to live as normally as possible amid a raging COVID-19 pandemic is our new reality. I hope we come out of it together without stories that touch the heart.
But how will we avoid Superstory when all this craziness finally fades away? I think a solution, if you can afford to, would be to stay true to yourself. By yourself, I mean the spirit in you that keeps you fighting for survival. Listen to it.
The government has said go out and fend for yourself, abi? That’s good but should you go out when you don’t have to? No. When you do go out, should you just stroll about anyhow; because you’re the war, you’re the fire and COVID-19 cannot harm you? No.
Honestly, I think we should maintain the status quo. Stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to go out. But if you do go out, wear a face mask and keep a distance between yourself and everybody.
Yes! I am aware of the claim that social distancing has not been scientifically proven to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But there is a certain appeal with not wanting to risk contracting a deadly virus because you went to be rubbing body everywhere. So, I suggest we continue to hold body until further notice.
What am I even saying?
Holding body sounds like a joke when public transporters are carrying full loads of passengers like it’s nothing. I was listening to a call-in radio show and one driver called in to complain bitterly. He spoke about how he has either had to double (and sometimes triple) the fare for passengers; or carry full load and risk being harassed by Police, LASTMA & agberos.
When the presenter asked him why; he explained that even with the new government order on public transportation; they still pay the same daily levy. Basically, “Police go collect their own, agbero go collect their own, LASTMA go collect their own.”
See why I’m asking that you listen to the spirit that wants you to stay safe this period? Na only you waka come o.
Don’t forget that there is an unseen COVID-19 virus still out there waiting for who to eat up. Keep making safety and good health a priority.
