COVID-19: Official death toll crosses 100 mark as 195 new cases takes Nigeria’s total to 3145

The death toll from the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic has officially hit 103 in Nigeria; even as 195 new cases reported on Wednesday took the tally of confirmed cases in the country to 3145.

Five states were responsible for double figures in the 195 new cases reported yesterday. They include Lagos which racked up 82 new COVID-19 cases and Kano which recorded 30. Also, Zamfara was responsible for 19 new cases while Sokoto recorded 18. The top five was completed by Borno which was responsible for 10 new cases.

In summary, 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were responsible for the 195 new cases reported on Wednesday.

Equally important, the figure of patients who had made full recoveries from COVID-19 and subsequently discharged rose to 534.

The foregoing was part of the updates delivered by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC); as part of its daily report on the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. The disclosure was published on its verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

‘‘195 new cases of #COVID19; 82-Lagos, 30-Kano, 19-Zamfara, 18-Sokoto, 10-Borno, 9-FCT, 8-Oyo, 5-Kebbi, 5-Gombe, 4-Ogun, 3-Katsina, 1-Kaduna, 1-Adamawa. 3145 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Discharged: 534. Deaths: 103,’’ the NCDC disclosed on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the NCDC has also disclosed that so far, it has tested a total of 21, 208 samples across Nigeria. Also, it noted that no new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours. In other words, all the 3145 confirmed cases reported so far have come from 34 states and the FCT.

Furthermore, a breakdown of the cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria per state shows that Lagos is still in the lead. As a matter of fact, four states and the FCT are responsible for a little over 72 per cent of the total of COVID-19 in Nigeria. They are the top five of Lagos (1308 cases), Kano (427), FCT (316), Borno (116) and Gombe (103).
