Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau State, is set to run for a senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections, barely three days after he was released from prison.
Specifically, Dariye has reportedly been offered a senatorial ticket by the Labour Party in Plateau State.
Equally important, Dariye and a former Taraba governor, Jolly Nyame, were among those released from prison on Monday, August 8, 2022. His release came after a presidential pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari. The Council of State led by the president had on April 14, 2022 granted a presidential pardon to the ex-governors and 157 others.
As a matter of fact, Dariye was serving a 10 years’ imprisonment for N1.126 billion fraud. However, following the presidential pardon, he was released after about four years in prison.
But according to Daily Trust, the Plateau State chapter of LP has concluded arrangements to receive the former Plateau governor from Abuja to pick the party’s senatorial form.
Meanwhile, former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Wednesday urged Nigerians to make the right choice during the 2023 general elections.
He warned that making the wrong choice in the election may consume the nation.
Obasanjo spoke as the special guest of honour at the Wilson Badejo Foundation’s 15th annual lecture with the theme; ‘Overcoming the twin challenges of poverty and insecurity in Nigeria’.
The event was held in Lagos.
The former President expressed the hope that if the right choice was made in 2023, the nation may witness progress.
“It is either we make the right choice in 2023…If we make the right choice, we would get there.”
