Wema Bank has stated its intention behind the ambassadorial deal with pop star, David Adeleke, aka Davido, for its digital bank, ALAT by Wema.
1st News had reported that the award-winning singer raised N201m when he recently posted his account number; shortly before his 29th birthday and asked industry friends to donate.
Subsequently, he added N50m; and also announced plans to donate the funds to orphanages across the country.
In his statement on Saturday, December 4 at the company’s headquarters, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Ademola Adebise, lauded Davido for his artistry, including his body of work and generosity; noting that it takes a genuine altruist to do what he did by giving away all the donations.
He also added that the choice of Davido as the bank’s ambassador affirms the bank’s strategic repositioning efforts and its youth-centric focus.
He said, “We welcome you warmly to our great family— the home of innovators and enterprising people who meet our customer’s needs with innovative products and excellent services that fit their lifestyles and empower their aspirations. You are set for a good time with us and we assure you this relationship would be mutually beneficial.”
Speaking on the brand ambassadorship and his association with the bank, Davido said, “I am excited to join the Wema Bank family and look forward to the great things we will achieve together.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, December 4, stated that no formal report was made; concerning the death of a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Sylvester Oromoni.
The statement titled ‘Investigation Into The Death Of Sylvester Oromoni Of Dowen College, Lekki, Ongoing’ was signed by the state police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu.
In the state, the police revealed that though no formal report was made on the matter; the investigation has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the state’s Criminal Investigation Department.
The statement partly read, “The Lagos State Police Command is not unaware of the reported death of one Sylvester Oromoni; a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos which is currently going viral on social media.
“The Command wishes to inform the public; that, although no formal report of the incident was made to the police; the Commissioner of Police, upon hearing about it; instantly directed the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division under whose jurisdiction the place of incident is; to immediately visit the school to carry out an initial investigation into the incident.”
