Sen. Melaye representing Kogi West at the National Assembly, through his lawyers, had gone to the court to seek for an order for the police to pull out of his residence where they have been laying siege since December 28th, 2018, but the court quickly dismissed the application.

The ex-parte application was to allow the judge to grant the order without hearing from the police but in ruling on the application, the high court judge N. E. Maha, failed to grant the prayer, ruling that the matter at hand be granted a faster and more definitive hearing.

The police had said in its statements that Sen. Melaye is wanted for his involvement in a culpable homicide and the arming of thugs.
