Does age matter in a relationship?

They say love is blind and this cliché holds true in many cases. For instance, love does not see the age of the partner and it happens when it is destined to.

Maybe, she is 31 and he is 25, but they share an undeniable chemistry that makes their world a brighter place when they are together. Or, a couple might have a beautiful relationship even if he’s 10 years older than her.

That brings us to the question- does the age of your partner has got anything to do with your compatibility?

It has nothing to do with maturity

“We had an arranged marriage, and my husband is fifteen years older than me.

Everyone were skeptical, and started commenting on our compatibility even before we got married. But after being married for more than 20 years, I can safely say that age is actually just a number in a relationship, and has nothing much to do with compatibility.

A younger person can have a mature and logical outlook, whereas an older person can have immature traits.”

Age gap does not matter

“I have been dating my boyfriend since past three years, and he is five years younger than me. I don’t say he is as mature as me but we respect each other for our choices and perspectives about everything.

That makes us compatible. Further, when you love someone truly, the age gap does not hold much significance.”

We struggled to take a decision together

“I once dated a guy who was four years younger than me and I guess, the age difference was the reason of our break up. Our opinions differed on the smallest of things and always struggled to take a decision together. Plus, marriage was also an issue. I had turned 30 and had pressure from my family to tie the knot. But he always thought that he’s too young for it.”

When it comes to kids

“I guess the age gap can lead to issues in a relationship. My husband, who is in his forties, feels he’s too old to have kids now. I just turned 30 and want to start a family. We have reached a stalemate on this topic.”

We were never on the same page emotionally

“Age brings a lot of self-awareness in a person. As you grow old, you get to understand what you seek in a partner or a relationship. Most importantly, you get to know yourself better as a person. My ex-girlfriend was six years younger than me, and she was always confused in terms of what she wanted from our relationship. We were never on the same page emotionally. Also, we were never comfortable in each other’s friend circle.”

He helps me become a better person

“My husband is just three years older than me and this minimal age gap has helped to nurture our relationship. He’s the more mature partner in the relationship and guides me everywhere. I respect him for his logical approach towards everything, and he actually helps me become a better person. His maturity is one of the reasons why I fell for him.”
