Egypt jails 11 gay men

An Egyptian court has sentenced 11 men accused of homosexuality to prison for between three and 12 years.

The defendants were arrested in a flat in the Cairo suburb of Agouza in September last year.

The court later convicted the men of ‘debauchery and incitement to debauchery’, which is the charge Egyptian prosecutors typically use to prosecute alleged homosexuality. The law does not formally forbid same-sex relations. Read more
