#EndSARS: Military reportedly take over Ogbomoso as death toll allegedly hits 10

The agitations by aggrieved Nigerian youths over the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which resulted in the ongoing #EndSARS protest has reportedly taken on a more worrisome complexion in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Feelers gathered by 1st News reveal that the military has been deployed to the town.

Specifically, the development comes as rampant youths allegedly vandalized the palace of a traditional ruler; the Soun of Ogbomoso on Sunday, October 11, 2020. 1st News had reported that the youths, said to be part of the #EndSARS protesters; had visited the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade; over the death of Isiaka Jimoh who was shot by a SARS official on Saturday.

Subsequently, the youths who had allegedly forcibly gained entry into the reception of the king; thereafter proceeded to vandalize all they saw in the room. Also, the youths pelted the bedroom of the monarch with stones, breaking the window glasses.

In the ensuing melee, three of the protesting #EndSARS youth were reportedly shot dead; while others sustained injuries.

An indigene of the town revealed that the youth complained about the nonchalant attitude of the king which prompted the protests.

The development may have prompted the drafting of the military to quell the unrest.

A Twitter user – @Mazigburugburu –  disclosed that the Army has taken over the town; even as he called on Governor Seyi Makinde to act.

‘‘Breaking News: Ogbomosho has been militarized. The Army has taken over the entire town. This is against the backdrop of the youths refusing to back down. Already, 10 persons have been killed in the town. @seyimakinde this is the time to act decisively to stop a bloodbath,’’ he tweeted.

Equally important, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu had on Sunday, October 11, announced the disbandment of the infamous SARS. However, the announcement has failed to assuage the agitations of the protesters.

The call has now shifted to a demand for an Executive Order by President Muhammadu Buhari scrapping the unit.
