#EndSARS: Primero suspends BRT operations along Ikorodu-TBS route

Following the continuous peaceful protests against police brutality in Nigeria, Primero has suspended operations on Ikorodu road to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). The transport service announced in a tweet that it would not be able to operate this weekend.

The suspension goes for operations over the weekend between Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2020.

The road leading from Ikorodu to Tafawa Balewa Square happens to be one of the major transport routes in Lagos State.

The suspension would have implications for people going from Ikorodu to the Island; as commuters would have to find alternative transport other than BRT.

On the other hand, the tweet omitted certain clarifications.

For example, it didn’t say whether it is only buses that originate from Ikorodu that will be unavailable.

It also didn’t say if buses from any bus stop between Ikorodu and Marina are a part of the suspension.

According to Primero, the decision was based on the ongoing protests around Lagos State.

The movement against SARS has “impacted the operation of the company,” the tweet states.

Primero further included that it will continue to monitor the situation.

The transport service should resume operations on Ikorodu to the TBS corridor once the road is clear.

The company also asked its customers to be understanding within the suspension period.

Our priority is to convey commuters safely to their destinations every day, providing fast, affordable and convenient services to Lagosians 24/7 every week,” the tweet concluded.
