Ayokunle emerges new CAN president

President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev. Supo Ayokunle, has emerged the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Ayokunle defeated Elder Joseph Otubu of the Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Movement (MCCSW) with 54 votes to 28. The outgoing president of the body, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, announced the result at 2:30pm to a rousing applause at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja. Details later… Read more

Ekiti Debt: Fayose has money to pay 3 months salaries – Ex- Finance Commissioner

A former Commissioner for Finance in Ekiti State, Mr Dapo Kolawole, has cited “gross incompetence” and “lack of capacity” on the part of  Governor Ayodele Fayose for the lingering economic crisis in the state. Kolawole, who was Commissioner for finance in the state between 2010 and 2014, said if the state’s resources were properly managed, the state wouldn’t be in the present economic mess. Read more

Sokoto Announces 70% Subsidy on Fertilizer

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar on Tuesday flagged off the sale of fertilizer for the 2016 cropping season in Sokoto state. Ortom gives reason for work free days in Benue

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has said decline in federal allocation occasioned by fall in oil prices in the international market necessitated the declaration of Fridays  as work free days for the months of June and July. 2,000 disengaged NIS recruits protest, demand reinstatement About 2,000 recruits into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), who were disengaged after their training in 2015, on Monday protested their sack at the Ministry of Interior. Our correspondent reports that the protesters stormed the Ministry of Interior with various placards demanding their reinstatement into the NIS. It will be recalled that the 2,000 applicants were recruited in 2015 following a presidential directive in the aftermath of Immigration recruitment stampede but were later disengaged after three months training. Mr. Rex Elenu, the leader of the group, told the Newsmen that they were at the ministry to protest their disengagement and press for immediate reinstatement.  Read more
