Exploration: Ogoni to stop Belema Oil’s attempt

Ogoni people have reiterated their position in the face of the new attempt to commence oil exploration by a local company, Belema Oil, an entry into Ogoniland for the business.

A decision to this effect was taken in an enlarged congress of the MOSOP Kingdom Coordinators and Chapter Leaders Forum which overwhelmingly rejected the takeover of Ogoni oilfields by Belema Oil. Read more

Fake Customs Officer Dupes NAFDAC Director, Others

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a fake Customs officer who has swindled an assistant director of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and many other Nigerians of millions of naira in bogus customs auction sales.

The suspect, Ramoni Raji, 63, a husband of three wives and father of nine children was nabbed after one Mrs Uche sent a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Mr Cornelius Aderanti, alleging that the suspect, Raji swindled her of N800, 000 after parading himself as a customs officer. Varsities, others get digital dividends from NCC

As part of its policy to bridge digital divides across a broad spectrum of the society and the school system in particular, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) recently took digital dividends to some institutions of higher learning in the country.

These schools included Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti; The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo; Federal Polytechnic, Nekede; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Benin; Government Junior Secondary School, Jabi, Abuja; Katsina State College, Katsina; Government Secondary School, Dan Musa, Katsina State, among others. CBN Closes Dutch Auction Windows 

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it has closed Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS) and Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS) windows of the foreign exchange. This is contained in a statement by CBN’s Director, Corporate Communication, Mr Ibrahim Mu’azu in Lagos. The statement explained that the closure, from February 17, was necessary “because of the gap between the RDAS window and interbank which had caused an undesirable situation in the system. Read more

Detention of Biafra Activists: BZF Asks Ndigbo to Boycott Elections

Following last week’s refusal of the Federal High Court in  Enugu to grant their leader, Benjamin Onwuka and 10 others bail,  the Biafra Zionist Federation  (BZF), a pro-Biafran group, yesterday called on Ndigbo to boycott the general election scheduled for March 28 and April 11, 2015.

The BZF said its call became necessary in view of the refusal of a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu to grant bail to 11 pro-Biafra activists, who are standing trial for treason. Read more

Ex-ASUP boss condemns attack on Auchi Polytechnic Rector

Former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi in Edo State, Pastor Okosun George Okosun, weekend  condemned what he called sponsored campaign of calumny against the institution’s Rector, Dr. PhiIipa Idogho.

The former ASUP chairman disclosed that a local magazine in its recent publication accused the rector and her husband, Dr. Nelson Idogho, of running the federal institution as their personal estate. Read more

 Britain sells 1.0% stake of Lloyds bank for £500m

Britain has sold a 1.0-percent stake in state-rescued Lloyds Banking Group for £500 million ($769 million, 677 million euros) under plans to return it to private ownership, the government said Monday.

The Treasury announced in a statement that the sale has trimmed the government’s stake from 24.9 percent to just under 24 percent. Read more

English Premier League side, Manchester City, has launched a last-minute move to get Kelechi Iheanacho into Nigeria final squad for next month’s African Youth Championship in Senegal, africanFootball.com reports.

After first saying the player will be unavailable for the AYC in Senegal due to injury, the EPL giants had now made a dramatic u-turn, saying the former Golden Eaglets’ star could be released to join the Flying Eagles for the tournament as he has fully recovered ahead of a mid-March time frame earlier set by the club.
