An explosion in Kaduna on Saturday claimed the life of one person, leaving two others injured.
The incident was confirmed by a spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Muhammad Jalige.
Jalige disclosed that the explosion occurred at about 4.30pm in Badarawa area of Kaduna North Local Government Area. Further, he revealed that the explosion caused significant damage. However, he failed to ascertain the source of the blast.
The spokesperson added that after the incident; the victims were taken to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, for treatment. One of the victims of the explosion passed on in the hospital. Another was treated and discharged, while the third person is still receiving treatment.
Jalige stated that investigations had commenced and its outcome would be made public upon completion of the exercise.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, has announced the indefinite suspension of academic activities in the institution.
The suspension order was conveyed in a circular by the college’s Registrar; Mr Marcus Timothy, issued to the school community on Friday in Kaduna. The circular said the suspension came into effect; following the students’ protests over a planned increase in tuition fees that resulted in the loss of two lives.
‘‘Consequent upon the aborted planned students’ demonstration last Monday, June 28; government has advised the management to close the college till further notice.
‘‘To this effect, all academic activities in the college are suspended. However, members of staff are expected to report for their normal work and schedules,” the circular said.
