Face mask order: Ogun govt to begin strict sanction from May 1

 

The Ogun State Government has announced its plan to begin strict sanction from May 1, 2020, on people who fail to comply with the directive of wearing a face mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The state governor, Gov. Dapo Abiodun, made this known while addressing journalists in Iperu.

He said violators would risk getting arrested or even isolated for 14 days.

The governor also said the government would assist the citizens with over 2 million masks; that will be distributed soon.

Part of his statement read that; “We have always encouraged the use of face masks; but let me add that with the reality facing us; the use of face mask in public by all individuals in Ogun State; is now compulsory as from Friday, May 1, 2020.”

In the same vein, its counterpart, Lagos state, mandated the use of the mask for all residents.

1st News reported that he Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Monday, April 20 that the enforcement of wearing of face mask in public places in the state will commence next week.

Sanwo-Olu made this declaration during a press briefing at the State House, Marina; regarding an update of fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

According to Sanwo-Olu, they have contracted the locally-made production of over one million face masks to tailors locally and will begin distribution during the week.

“From next week, we will begin the enforcement of the wearing of face mask in public places. We have commissioned over a million to tailors and will be distributed during the week,” the governor said.
