A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has mocked President Buhari over the alleged seizure of a military base by Boko Haram terrorists.
1st News reports that the military base is located in Marte, Borno State.
Fayose had taken to his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to tackle Buhari over the incident. The former governor wondered how terrorists could have taken over a military base; even as he referred to President Buhari’s claim that the insurgents had been brought under control.
‘‘Less than 4 days after President Buhari gleefully told Nigerians that security situation in the North-East under him is better than what it used to be, terrorists attacked and captured a Military Base in Borno State!
‘‘A whole Military Base captured by terrorists!!!,’’ Fayose had tweeted.

Fayose famously had a running feud with Buhari during his time in office; leading to a number of front page advertorials in which he even once declared that the president was dead.
Meanwhile, the attack on the military base in Borno and its subsequent take-over by the insurgents was confirmed by Reuters; which quoted military sources. The medium reports that the Boko Haram fighters overpowered Nigerian forces in a Friday night exchange of fire at the military base in the town of Marte near Lake Chad.
“The priority now is to reclaim the base from the terrorists and an operation is underway,” the news agency quoted a military source as saying.
The attack comes barely a day after the Federal Government claimed no territory is under Boko Haram control.
Equally important, the official statement from the Defence HQ offers a different picture. Specifically, it says that the troops of Operation Tura Ta Kai Bango have effectively destroyed seven Boko Haram terrorists’ gun trucks; in addition to neutralizing several terrorists when they attempted to attack their base at the outskirts of Marte in Borno.
