FRSC warns against night travels

The Sagamu Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a warning to drivers advising against driving at night during the ember months.

Tuesday in Sagamu, Ogun, the FRSC Unit Commander, Mr. Taofiq Iyanda, issued the warning while speaking with the pressmen.

He claimed that given the nation’s current security situation, the warning had become imperative.

“We are appealing to motorists to be careful and refrain from night travelling because most of the crashes happen at night.

“In addition, when road crashes occur at night, it is always difficult to get assistance to rescue the accident victims and take them to the hospital, thus leading to high death rate,” he said.

The unit commander urged drivers to reduce speeding; while also urging them to check the condition of their cars before placing them on the road.

To prevent accidents during the ember months; Mr. Iyanda also advised against erroneous overtaking and driving against the flow of traffic.

He reaffirmed the FRSC’s resolve to stepping up patrols to check drivers’ excesses; particularly to ensure sanity throughout the ember months.

September to December every year are regarded as the ’ember’ months. Research shows that drivers’ impatience and human errors are the major causes of the high number of accidents recorded during the ‘Ember’ months.
