Golden Eaglets striking sensation Ibrahim Said has written his name in the history books at the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
The young striker netted the first hattrick of the tournament on Tuesday night. His three goals helped the Golden Eaglets come from behind to edge a keenly-contested tie against Ecuador.
The Golden Eaglets had taken the lead in the encounter as early as the fifth minute. Indeed, Said had capitalized on an error by the Ecuadorian goalkeeper to find the back of the net. However, the South Americans hit back to equalize in the first half.

Thereafter, they went ahead in the second half. The Eaglets were adjudged by VAR to have denied an Ecuadorian striker in the 18-yard-box. Subsequently, the South Americans converted the penalty to take a 2-1 lead in the encounter.
Nevertheless, Said was not done. The teenage striker curled in a sensational effort from the edge of the area deep into the second half to level the tie. Further, he followed that up with another effort in regulation time, this time from inside the box.
His goal broke the Ecuadorian’s resistance and sealed the Golden Eaglets’ passage into the next round.
Here are the highlights of the match and the hat-trick effort by Said:
Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets have also hit the record books as one of the first three sides to make the Round of 16 at the cadet tournament.
Indeed, Manu Garba’s charges joined hosts Brazil and African neighbours, Angola as the first three sides to hit the next round. The Eaglets next take on Australia in their final group game on Friday.
A win will further cement their growing credentials as a team to watch.
