Gunman shoots 5 dead at US medical facility, worsening recent gun violence

The recent spike in gun violence in the United States worsened on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 as a gunman shot dead at least five persons at a medical facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

The gunman was armed with a rifle and a handgun.

Equally important, the incident, which occurred near St Francis Hospital left multiple victims on the second floor. However, the suspect also died. This was disclosed in a statement released by Tulsa police.

Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief, Eric Dalgleish stated that the yet-to-be-identified gunman died apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The development in Tulsa echoes the recent killing of 19 children and two teachers. The incident, which took place at a Texas elementary school on Tuesday, May 24, 2022; was carried out by an 18-year-old gunman carrying an AR-style semi-automatic rifle.

Meanwhile, American actor, Johnny Depp has won a defamation suit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

The jury found, Wednesday June 1, 2022, that she had defamed Depp in saying that he had abused her over the course of their relationship. Consequently, the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.

Depp, who was not in court Wednesday due to a previously scheduled work commitment, sued for $50 million in damages over a 2018 opinion-editorial essay by Heard in The Washington Post, in which she said she had become a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although the essay never mentioned Depp by name; his attorneys said it indirectly referred to allegations she made against him during their 2016 divorce.

The jury unanimously found that Amber Heard could not substantiate her allegations against Depp; also, that she knew her claims of abuse were false when she published her 2018 essay.

Further, the jury determined that Amber Heard acted with actual malice when writing her op-ed.
