IG bans illegal mobile phone search by policemen
The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has in a secular directed that policemen should forthwith stop accessing people’s mobile telephones illegally.

Naira weakens against dollar at parallel market
The Naira on Monday depreciated by 0.8 per cent to exchange at N265 to the dollar at the parallel market.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the greenback lost N2 to the dollar from its weekend value of N263. Read more
106 illegal refineries destroyed in Bayelsa in 2015 – NSCDC
The Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has disclosed that its operatives apprehended 40 suspected oil thieves, destroyed 106 illegal refineries and recovered rifles in 2015.
According to the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Desmond Agu, the command recorded an appreciable success in its fight against oil theft and other illegalities during the outgoing year. Read more
Avoid living under, close to high tension cables – EEDC
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) on Monday cautioned people against living and trading under or close to high tension cables.
The EEDC Head of Communications, Mr Eugene Anionwo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that living in such close proximity with high tension cables was risky. Read more
Kaduna youths block roads, protest 10-month power outage
Youths of Kamanzo Community in Kaduna metropolis have embacked on protest over alleged 10 months of power outage in the area.
The protest which erupted on Monday saw the youths barricade the Ibrahim Yakowa Road, causing gridlock for over two hours. Read more
CAF clears Guinea to host international matches
The Confederation of African Football on Monday authorised Guinea to host organised football activities on its territory.
The information is contained in a letter signed by the CAF General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani, and addressed to the President of the Guinean Football Federation, Salifou Camara, on Monday. Read more
EFCC hasn’t invited me – Metuh
The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has said he has yet to be invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission.
Metuh is alleged to be under investigation for allegedly collecting about N400m from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sabo Dasuki (retd.). Read more
Sodomy: Court remands man in prison for allegedly defiling neigbour’s underage son
A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 19-year-old man, Akinola Samuel, in prison custody for allegedly defiling an unnamed four-year-old boy.
The accused, who is a student residing in 13, Shore Close, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on defilement. Read more

A popular Petrol Station, Organizer Filling station located at Amuko Junction, Nnewichi Nnewi Anambra State, Monday was up in flames.

Two security guards are killed in failed ISIS attack on Libyan oil port
Islamic State has killed two security guards and set an oil storage tank ablaze in a suicide car bombing at Libya’s largest oil port.
The battle in Al-Sidra saw two suicide bombers blow themselves up at a military checkpoint while other ISIS militants involved in the coordinated attack were pushed back by government soldiers. Read more
Standard Bank suspends Chris Hart over ‘racist’ tweet
In a day in which the penny dropped on racism in South Africa with the Penny Sparrow “monkey” scandal gripping the country, Standard Bank dropped another bomb to announce the suspension of economist Chris Hart following a racist tweet on Sunday.
Standard Bank said in a statement posted on its website that the bank has suspended Hart pending an inquiry into the events of his commentary on Twitter on Sunday 3 January. Read more
Schengen zone in danger, warns Germany, after Denmark and Sweden introduce border controls
The Schengen zone is “in danger”, Germany warned on Monday, as Denmark and Sweden reintroduced border controls in the hope of stemming the movement of migrants.
Sweden yesterday imposed border checks on the famous Oresund crossing, the 5-mile bridge and tunnel link between Malmo and Copenhagen. Read more

Thieves blow up Somerset post office in cash machine raid
A cherished village post office in Somerset has been seriously damaged in a fire after thieves apparently used explosives to target a cash machine in the front of the building.
Residents of Long Ashton were woken by the blast at 3.30am on Monday. The shop front was destroyed and debris scattered across the pavement and street. Read more
Sudanese who braved Channel Tunnel granted asylum in Britain
A Sudanese man who made global headlines in August when he walked 50 km (30 miles) through the Channel Tunnel from France to England, highlighting the plight of migrants, has been granted asylum in Britain.
The case of Abdul Haroun, who has been in prison since he was arrested at the English end of the tunnel on Aug. 4, is one of the most dramatic examples of a country struggling to tackle an influx of refugees largely from war zones such as Syria. Read more
Blast hits Afghan capital Kabul near contractor compound
A large explosion struck close to Kabul airport on Monday, causing at least 10 casualties near to the area where a suicide bomber blew himself up earlier in the day in the latest in a series of attacks in the Afghan capital over the past week.
A police official said a small truck packed with explosives detonated near Camp Baron, a heavily protected residential compound for civilian technical contractors close to the airport, smashing windows and badly damaging nearby houses. Read more
