Jonathan to Obaseki: Ensure all-inclusive governance for betterment of Edo State

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, on Sunday, September 20, advised Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki over an all-inclusive administration after his victory at the Edo election.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Jonathan congratulated Governor Obaseki over his reelection; and also charged him to set aside partisan politics while governing the state for the good of all.

Goodluck Jonathan also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; for conducting a free and fair election in the state.

He wrote on Twitter: “I congratulate His Excellency Governor Obaseki on his re-election as Edo State Governor. I also congratulate INEC for overseeing a process that allowed the votes of the good people of Edo to count.

“Democracy can only be consolidated to promote good governance in our nation and continent when our elections become credible; transparent; and truly represent the wish of the voters.

“Through their ballot papers, Edo people have spoken in favour of Governor Obaseki. He should therefore rise above partisan politics; and govern for the good of all,” the former president added.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, September 20, praised President Muhammadu Buhari; for ensuring the credible conduct of the Edo State governorship election.

This was contained in a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, at a news conference in Abuja.

Ologbondiyan also implored the president to continue in the spirit of ensuring that the people were allowed to freely choose their leaders at all elections.

He urged President Buhari to continue on the same path for posterity.

The PDP spokesman, however, said the Edo election would serve as a loud lesson to “political godfathers” that power belongs only to God.

“He confers through the people; and that no matter how an individual strives to lord it over others; the will of God, through the people, will always prevail,” he said.

Furthermore, the PDP commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its innovations during the Saturday election.

He charged the commission to extend the process to future elections; especially the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
