Kano Govt closes school where Hanifa’s murder happened

The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of a private school, Noble Kids Academy, in the Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state.

This was where abductors of a pupil, Hanifa Abubakar, were said to have killed and buried her remains.

Haruna Kiyawa, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Police Command made this announcement on Friday, January 21; noting that investigations are ongoing.

“On investigation, Abdulmalik confessed that the victim, Hanifa was his student; at a private school in Kwanar Dakata, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State. He kidnapped her and took her to his house where he contacted her relatives and demanded a ransom of Six Million Naira (N6,000,000).

“On the 18/12/2021, having realised that the victim recognized him, he claimed to have poisoned her to death, conspired with one Hashim Isyaku and buried her in a shallow grave within the private school premises located at Kwanar ‘Yan Gana, Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State,” Kiyawa noted.

Five-year-old Hanifa was abducted late last year; and one of those involved in the operation was her teacher, Abdulmalik Mohammed Tanko.

The abductors demanded a ransom of N6million; but went ahead to kill her after receiving the money.

Across social media, the hashtag #JusticeForHanifa began to trend late Thursday; with many sympathising with the family and calling for justice to be served.

Meanwhile, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has berated the achievements of the All Progressive Congress, APC; since it took over the government from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2015.

Ortom made this disclosure on Thursday, January 20, at the government house in Makurdi; noting that the security architecture of the country, the economy, as well as everything are in bad shape; under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

“Mr President, Benue State is not enjoying your government that is why even your party members from APC are all coming to PDP; because they are not sure of being part of your government.

“Every day, even yesterday APC members in the House of Assembly have decamped to PDP because the impact is not there. The pains are too much, the economy is in bad shape; the security is in bad shape; everything is in bad shape,” he said.
