Popular American rapper Kanye West has announced he will be running for President of the United States.
1st News reports that Kanye West had taken to his verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Saturday to make the announcement; a development that got instant reactions, ultimately resulting in Kanye West becoming the major trending topic on Twitter.
Equally important, Kanye West is a vocal supporter of current US President Donald Trump; the man he will be seeking to replace in office.
The announcement means that Kanye, a successful business mogul who recently joined the billionaire ranks; would face-off against Trump and his presumptive Democratic rival, former US Vice President, Joe Biden.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” Kanye West wrote on his verified Twitter handle; adding an American flag emoji and the hashtag “#2020VISION.”
Meanwhile, it is yet to be ascertained if the rapper is serious about his declaration to run. The US Presidential election holds in about four months’ time, specifically on November 3, 2020. Also, it is unclear if he has filed any formal paperwork to appear on state election ballots.
However, the deadline to add independent candidates to the ballot has not yet passed in many states.
Nevertheless, Kanye West’s public declaration on Twitter has already won him the support of an influential personality.
Elon Musk, Chief Executive of electric car maker, Tesla, had immediately endorsed Kanye’s candidacy.
“You have my full support!” Musk wrote on Twitter.
Kanye is married to another famous celebrity Kim Kardashian. The couple, who both run successful businesses are known to have close ties to Trump. Also, they have both visited the US President in the White House.
Meanwhile, his declaration has ignited a storm of reactions on Twitter, with Kanye trending at number one as at press time.
