Kukah: Renowned cleric slams ‘unacceptable’ APC Muslim-Muslim ticket

The Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been denounced by Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto.

The ticket, according to Bishop Kukah, is abhorrent and disgusting.

Specifically, the Catholic Bishop emphasised that the ticket was a setback to the nation’s integration. He made this known in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, chose Kashim Shettima as his running mate over the protests of Nigerians.

Shettima is a Muslim from the North, whilst Tinubu is a Muslim from the Southwest.

Kukah questioned whether Muslims would support a Christian-Christian ticket for presidency.

He said: “But moving forward, the question I have asked my friends who are Muslims, especially those who are from northern Nigeria, is a simple question: ‘Would Muslims in Nigeria or northern Nigeria be ready to make the same concession that Christians made in 1984 and 1993?

“I think that as a Christian, this is totally reprehensible. It is not acceptable to me, but that is the decision of the APC as a party. Perhaps, when the campaign starts, we will hear what people have to say.”

Meanwhile, Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, said on Thursday, August 11, in Abuja that the party would transform Nigeria’s economy from that of consumption to production.

Obi made the declaration at the Labour Party and the Coalition for Peter Obi Leadership Summit.

The summit had “Youths, Governance and a New Nigeria’’ as its theme.

He said that he would diversify the economy by harnessing the potential and natural resources from all regions of the country.

Obi added that he would build a country of integrity where patriotism would be the pride of citizens.

“We have a country called Nigeria, but we don’t have Nigerians.

“What we want to do is to create Nigerians and the only way to create Nigerians is to make people have hope in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is a great country. God created this country and gave it everything to make it great. The only thing that is lacking is a simple thing called leadership.

“That is what Datti and I intend to provide,’’ he said.
