A suspected mentally-deranged man has set a man ablaze after pouring petrol on him. The incident occurred in Surulere, Lagos, on Sunday.
The victim was identified as one Bolatito Kadara of 13, Aiyeleto Street, Surulere. On the other hand, the mentally-deranged man is known in the area as Badejo Adewale.
Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Police Command, Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent; said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, that after dousing Kadara with petrol; Adewale then set his victim ablaze. He disclosed that the incident took place at Hogan Bassey Street, Surulere.
Further, the Police spokesman noted that afterwards, the sister of the burnt victim, Miss Adeola Kadara; reported at Surulere Police Station that she received information that her brother had been set ablaze.
“The victim has been taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital and he is recuperating. He made a statement to the police and narrated how Adewale, the mentally-deranged man, poured petrol on him and ignited it.
“The police extended their investigations to the Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, where the suspect is admitted,” Elkana said.
However, Elkana disclosed that all efforts made to interview the suspect proved abortive, as he did not utter a word.
The police spokesman said that investigation was ongoing on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Police has revealed it has commenced an investigation into a viral video on social media.
Equally important, the video depicted persons dressed as well as armed as police operatives. They were extorting from members of the public, also using a point of sale (POS) machine.
In its reaction, the Police through its verified Twitter handle; said it has commenced investigations to unravel the authenticity of the video, location and identity of persons.
