
Last Monday, October 15th, Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua celebrated his 29th birthday. The world heavyweight champion was born in Watford, England. Although he is renowned as a European fighter, he is a descent of Nigerian parents.

He has an exceptional boxing record, competing in 22 matches and winning 21 by knockout and just one through the referee’s decision. Joshua’s cousin Ben Lleyemi is also a professional boxer and they both made their debut in 2013.
Prior to becoming a professional boxer, he represented England at the 2011 World championships as an amateur in the super-heavyweight division, winning a silver medal. He then went on to compete at the 2012 London Olympics where he won gold medal after defeating Roberto Cammarelle in the final.

In his professional debut in 2013, Joshua defeated Emanuele Leo and he has since then become a beast among men. Some of his subsequent opponents and challengers include Paul Butlin, Kevin Johnson, Eric Molina, Joseph Parker, Vladimir Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin, and the list goes on.
Joshua is currently the unified heavyweight champion, and he holds three of the four major world championships in the sports. At the regional level, he held the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2014 to 2016. He is also a recipient of the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honors, An OBE is a Queen’s honor given to an individual for a major role in any activity such as business, sports, charity or the public sector.
We love Anthony Joshua because he is an exceptional boxer with the heart of a champion, strength of a lion and the physique of a king. Although he is a British-born boxer, we sabi say the Nigerian blood flows through him.
