The Senator is in a tight battle to secure the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is an opposition party in the state.
He says he has secured the promises of some delegates to vote for him.

If he gets the party’s ticket, he would be slugging it out with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming election in the state.
Currently, the APC seems to favour Governor Yahaya Bello, but he has big hurdle from the stakeholders of the ruling party who are not comfortable with him for a second term in office.
In his Sallah message, Melaye said Nigerians would soon overcome the country’s challenges if the people all imbibe positive vibes.
He said: “This year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration offers us another opportunity to reflect on the virtues of love, peace and tolerance without which our nation can be united. If we all imbibe positive virtues, Nigeria will soon overcome its present challenges.”
