The mother of a 22-year-old man has been stabbed in the face by her son.
A 22-year-old man from Adamawa State has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola after he allegedly stabbed his mother during a dispute.
The suspect identified as Ibrahim Umar of Michika Local Government Area of Northern Adamawa was remanded in prison custody after he admitted to stabbing his mother, Hajiya Lami Mallum, during an argument that became violent.
When the First Information Report was given to him, he entered a plea of guilty to the accusation against him. The defendant was ordered to be kept in custody by Mohammed Buba’s Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola. He also set the case’s hearing for next month’s 18th of October.
On Tuesday, court documents stated that the defendant and his mother had a disagreement last week, on September 12; albeit the nature of their disagreement was not made clear. During the ensuing melee, Umar is alleged to have attacked Hajiya Lami in the face with a knife.
Domestic abuse committed by teenagers and young adults is on the rise.
According to some experts, characteristics that contribute to this include negative parenting, disorder in the family, neglect, and rejection.
