Nigeria develops COVID-19 testing kit

The Federal government has developed a COVID-19 testing kit for tracking the coronavirus pandemic.

This was disclosed by the federal government who said to contain the spread of the COVID-19; hence the validation of the RNA-Swift.

RNA-Swift is the test for the identification of SARS-CoV-2d (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), the cause of the COVID-19.

“The RNA-Swift has amazing precision for the detection of SARS-COV-2; and will also be commercially available at a price that places it ahead of competitors; in terms of sensitivity as well as affordability,” Minister of Science and Technology Ogbonna Onu said.

He also told reporters that 5 million farmers will be tested out of the 10 million RNA-Swift to be tested.

“I want to confirm to you that the RNA-Swift product team is in consultation with the African Development Bank; for the funding of an African-wide testing program for COVID-19; and also the establishment for RNA-Swift production in Nigeria,” he added.

With the RNA-Swift testing, the federal government aims to increase the capacity of testing people; so as to effectively manage the pandemic.

The coronavirus which originated from Wuhan in China last year December has spread across the world; halting every activity in the business world.

Nigeria alone has recorded 30, 748 (+499) cases; and 689 (+5) recovered cases. The numbers of confirmed cases in the world are 12.3M (+250k); 6.74M recovered cases; and 555k (+5,575) deaths.
