Obaseki: PDP reopens screening for Edo poll

The defection of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); has seen the party take a swift action to accommodate him in the governorship election race.

1st News reports that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has reopened its screening for the Edo guber. Specifically, the party approved that the party screening committee should continue the screening exercise for its aspirants for the governorship election.

Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), the PDP National Organising Secretary, who made this known on Friday; said the exercise would continue today, Saturday, June 20 at the NWC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Abuja from 10am prompt.

“The committee is mandated to screen all aspirants for the upcoming 2020 governorship election in Edo.”

Members of the screening committee include Mr Kingsley Chinda who is the Chairman; Boyele Debekeme as Secretary, Chief Oladimeji Fabiyi, Sen. Mrs Joy Emordi and Hajiya Aishat Hasindu as members.

Meanwhile, 1st News can report that the party had earlier conducted a screening exercise for its aspirants. However, the exercise, which was conducted on June 5, has now been thrown open once more to accommodate Obaseki.

Also, the PDP had on Friday granted a waiver to Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shuaibu; while it also shifted its primary election from June 23 to June 25.
