Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo State has been impeached.
Olaniyan was impeached on Monday morning, July 18, 2022.
His impeachment followed the adoption of the report of an investigative panel set up by the state’s Chief Judge Munta Abimbola.
Abimbola set up the panel after receiving a directive from the Oyo State House of Assembly; which had accused Olaniyan of gross misconduct, among other charges.
House Leader Sanjo Adedoyin read the report of the panel before the parliament which went on to adopt the recommendation to impeach the deputy governor.

Olaniyan’s problem began after falling out with Governor Seyi Makinde who eventually dropped him as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
Olaniyan then left the governor’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC); sparking the impeachment move.
Meanwhile, asserting that defeat lies in store for him, much like in Osun State; opposition parties in Ogun State have requested that Governor Dapo Abiodun begins composing his handover notes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, July 17, claimed it will mobilise its members and supporters; particularly to guarantee that Abiodun gets defeated.
This was contained in a statement released by its spokesman, Bankole Akinloye.
Therefore, Akinloye urged party members to reaffirm their dedication to winning the state’s governorship election in 2023.
He said Ademola Adeleke’s victory “remains a symbolic attestation to the fact that no amount of money is big enough to buy a determined mind.
”We urge all members of our great party to work in synergy with all relevant tendencies; renew their commitment to the cause of liberating the good people of Ogun State who have continually suffered all manners of irresponsibility and avoidable agony; misery, and deaths under the perfidious watch of Prince Dapo Abiodun and his sinking ship, the rudderless APC.”
