PDP crisis takes new turn as court reinstates Secondus as National Chairman

The ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took on another dimension on Thursday, August 26, 2021 with the reinstatement of embattled Prince Uche Secondus as National Chairman.

1st News reports that Secondus was reinstated as National Chairman by a Kebbi State High Court.

Specifically, the application was filed by the trio of Yahaya Usman, Abubakar Mohammed and Bashar Suleman.

Thereafter, the ruling was handed down by Justice Nusirat Umar, a vacation judge at the Kebbi High Court. She gave the order in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital on Thursday while ruling in suit no: KB/AC/M. 170/2021. The presiding judge noted that she is satisfied after going through the affidavit of the respondents; which prayed that an interim order be granted on the purported suspension of Secondus pending judgment.

Consequently, she granted leave to the embattled PDP Chairman to continue exercising all the constitutional powers of the office of Chairman of the PDP; as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as well as the party’s constitution.

In the light of the new development, Secondus will continue to function as National Chairman of the PDP; pending the hearing and final determination of applicants’ motion on notice.

1st News reports that the latest twist comes after a High Court in Rivers State slammed a suspension on Secondus. The ruling, which was made public by an aide of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, had drawn an immediate reaction from Secondus; who berated his traducers as desperadoes and affirmed his willingness to challenge any court action.M

Meanwhile, following the suspension of Secondus by the Rivers court; the National Executive Council of the party had unanimously affirmed Yemi Akinwonmi as Acting National Chairman. Also, the party had fixed Saturday, August 28, 2021 for its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
