Bandits, Police clash, 11 abductees freed

The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State on Friday, July 23, 2021 engaged local bandits in a gun battle to rescue eight kidnapped victims.

The bandits had taken 11 passengers at Kabobi village; along the Jibia-Batsari Road in the Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

The bandits were said to have barricaded the road around 2:30pm; when they attacked a white Volkswagen Passat car which the passengers were travelling; and then went ahead to abduct them.

The vehicle was with Registration number: EPE 754 EZ. Reports had it that the bandits ordered the victims out of the vehicle; and consequently marched them into the forest.

Police operatives, however, responded expressly and found a way to block the path of escape of the kidnappers; and also rescued eight out of the eleven abducted victims.

The Spokesman for the Katsina police command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident on Friday night.

The police spokesman said security operatives engaged the kidnappers in an exchange of fire, rescued some of the victims but were still combing the forest with a view to rescuing the other victims.

Gambo said, “Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting the fleeing bandits and to rescue the remaining three persons. Investigation is ongoing.”
