The Police Command in Ebonyi says it has commenced investigations into the shooting of an Ebubeagu Security Network personnel on Saturday.
1st News recalls that the personnel, simply identified as Seriki, was reportedly shot during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in the Ugwuachara area of Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aliyu Garba, stated on Sunday, August 1, those investigations had commenced on the incident.
“We are still investigating the incident; and we will brief the press at the end of the investigation,” the Police Commissioner said.
One of the sources said that the Ebubeagu personnel was shot during an exchange of gunfire; with some unknown gunmen who attempted to snatch the ward congress voting materials.
“The Ebubeagu personnel, with the assistance of security agencies; engaged the unknown gunmen who later fled the scene, having being overpowered.
“The personnel was hit during the crossfire; while efforts to revive him at the Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki yielded no result,” the source narrated.
Another source, however, said it was during the exchange of fire; that personnel of one of the security agencies accidentally shot the Ebubeagu operative.
“He was mistakenly shot by a security personnel, as they were pursuing the fleeing gunmen,” he said.
Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has revealed that it has recovered 35 wraps of cocaine; from a lady passenger at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
Mr Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, August 1, in Abuja.
Babafemi said that the suspect, Okafor Ebere Edith was arrested on July 31; during the outward clearance of passengers on Air Cotevoire bound to Monrovia, Liberia.
The NDLEA boss said the suspect, who tucked a pellet of cocaine in her underwear; to beat security checks at the airport, was however picked up for a search.
This, he said, included questioning during which the wraps of the illicit drug were found on her.
“During the preliminary interview, the suspect claimed that the desire to make money pushed her into drug trafficking,” he said.
