Reddit bans hundreds of hate speeches from Trump Community

Reddit mentioned on Monday that it was blocking about 2,000 subreddits like r / The_Donald; where President Donald Trump‘s followers have met; in a move the software giant claimed was targeted at hate-promoting groups.

“All communities on Reddit must abide by our content policy in good faith. We banned r/The_Donald because it has not done so; despite every opportunity,” the technology company said in a statement.

Reddit had previously put r /The_Donald behind an external page; allowing users to click through, a limitation the organization named as a “quarantine.” But even after that limited punishment, the subreddits moderators “have refused to meet our most basic expectations,” said a company executive.

The company had initially put r/The_Donald behind an external page allowing users to click through; a limitation the organization hoped would amend the conduct.

Reddit executives said the site remained a place that they hoped could be a forum for civil political discourse in the future; as long as users played by its rules.

“There’s a home on Reddit for conservatives, there’s a home on Reddit for liberals,” said Benjamin Lee, Reddit’s general counsel. “There’s a home on Reddit for Donald Trump.”
