During the early hours of Monday, a social media user has taken a standpoint that 19-year-old budding artist Rema is better than Olamide.
Nigerian users on Twitter are not adhering to the controversial comparison. Some consider the tweet to be disrespectful, nonsensical and myopic. Social media is currently embroiled in a debate about who is the better artist (or rapper) between Olamide and Rema.
It is uncertain if the tweet went on air for mere clouts or the Twitter user is a staunch fan of Rema. Whatever stunt was pulled by the Twitter user has set the internet ablaze and there is no water to quench this.
1st News has characteristically followed the incendiary narrative online and we are about to see what instigate this controversy. The laughable debate first kicked off on @IamJuniMill’s Twitter page.
“Stfu, is it by having plenty of albums? Olamide has 7 albums but yesterday’s Rema is bigger than him…Davido got singles bigger than people’s albums, FALL, IF, BLOW MY MIND ETC”
Expectedly, his tweet has sparked debate on Twitter and no one is in support of @IamJuniMill’s tweet. Instead, he has received the rod from his followers and friends online.
Numerous Twitter users have waved off his tweet as a form of seeking attention.
Below is a cross-section of comments garnered from Twitter.
Olamide – Eni duro at 19 is bigger than Rema’s entire present career.

Whoever said REMA is bigger than OLAMIDE, just remember how many artists attained stardom because of Olamide. You'll just wake up, smoke and tweet! Low-budget Daddy freeze!

Olamide is the King of the Streets. He paved the way for people like Naira Marley & Zlatan.
Hell we knew Zlatan Cos of Olamide with that “My Body” song then, Davido danced to it too.
Olamide started this trend of bringing danced from the street to the limelight.

When Dagrin died(God rest his soul), Olamide took up the challenge and single handedly held the indigenous Yoruba rap from going into extinct for many years, helped a lot of artist come to limelight, and you want to compare him with Rema?
This is total disrespect to the Legend!!

This conversation is not worth it. Olamide who made his debut with ‘Eni Duro’ in late 2010 has remained one of the most relevant indigenous rappers in the industry since his debut. The comparison between Olamide and Rema is needless and baseless, the latter is still under development with Mavins Record.
Since the demise of Da Grin in 2010, Olamide has paved the way for indigenous rappers in the industry. Since the release of ‘Eni Duro’, Baddo has not looked back.
He established his own record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop, YBNL in 2011 and it has served as the home to numerous artists. They include- Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun and currently Fireboy DML.
Further, he is a recipient of over 30 awards both local and international. Olamide is an icon, Rema is the new kid on the block, it is important to give honour to whom honour is due.
